Open Enrollment
Open Enrollment
The application for inter-district open enrollment will be available beginning March 1, 2026. One application must be submitted for each student who requests an inter-district transfer. Applications are due March 20, 2026. In the event of extenuating circumstances, open enrollment may be considered on a case-by-case basis at other times.
Our goal is to act on applications by the end of April but may be delayed for certain grades. You will be notified by mail or e-mail of acceptance or denial – no information will be given over the phone.
TUITION: No tuition will be assessed. The State Department reimburses the school district that accepts students and subtracts the state reimbursement from the school districts that lose students.
LENGTH OF TIME: Students must re-apply each school year.
ACCEPTANCE: Local priorities can be set, but generally, acceptance will be on a first come first serve basis.
LIMITATIONS: Limits can be set by class size, special program requirements, school enrollment limits and priority lists. No students will be admitted if the student is under expulsion and/or has been suspended from school for any reason for ten (10) total days in the last twelve (12) months.
SPECIAL EDUCATION: Students may not be accepted if services are not available in Jefferson Area Local Schools.
TRANSPORTATION: Parents are required to provide transportation to the school building or to specific bus stops in the District if seating is available. Prior arrangement with the Transportation Supervisor will be required (bus garage phone: 440-576-5732).
Open enrollment to Jefferson Area schools is open to the state of Ohio.
