Ohio’s Long-term Graduation Requirements
State law introduced new, long-term graduation requirements for Ohio students. Students in the classes 2018-2022 have the option to meet the new requirements or the requirements of the original three pathways to graduation, while students in the classes of 2023 and beyond must meet the new requirements. Students in the classes of 2023 and beyond are now required to meet a new set of graduation requirements. These new graduation requirements consist of three key components:
PART 1: Course Completion: Students will satisfy Ohio’s curriculum requirements and any additional local requirements. JAHS students must complete 21 units, with specific units required in each content area. The course of study is a useful document to help learn more about the courses offered here at JHS, please refer to the high school website to review the course of study. (See below)
PART 2: Competency: Students will demonstrate competency in the foundational areas of English language arts and mathematics by earning a 684 or higher on the English II and Algebra I State Tests or through alternative demonstrations, which include College Credit Plus, career-focused activities, their ACT or SAT scores, or military enlistment.
PART 3: Readiness: Students will demonstrate readiness for their post-high school paths by earning two diploma seals that allow them to demonstrate important foundational and well-rounded academic and technical knowledge, professional skills, and leadership and reasoning skills. One must be a state seal.
STATE SEALS:
Science Seal: Earn a proficient score (700+) on the Biology State Test; earn a “2” or Higher on AP Test; or a "B" or higher in qualifying course.
Citizenship Seal: Earn a proficient score (700+) on the American History and Government State Tests; earn a “2” or Higher on AP Test; or a "B" or higher in qualifying course.
Industry-Recognized Credential Seal: (A-tech) Earn 12 points of industry-recognized credentials from a single career field.
College-Ready Seal: Earn remediation free scores on the ACT or SAT. (ACT Reading 22; ACT Math 22; ACT English 18. SAT Reading 480; Math 530)
Honors Diploma: Earn one of the six state-defined honors diplomas. (See ODE website for info)
Ohio Means Jobs Readiness Seal: Show aptitude in 15 professional skills, as endorsed by three mentors.
Technology Seal: Earn a “B” or better in a CCP computer science course.
Seal of Biliteracy: Students must show proficiency in English and high levels of proficiency in a second language.
Military Enlistment Seal: Enlist in a branch of the U.S. Armed Forces or participate in a JROTC Program for 2 years.
LOCAL SEALS:
Community Service Seal: Complete 25 hours of community service. Service must be documented and signed by an advisor.
Fine and Performing Arts Seal: Complete four fine arts courses offered at JAHS during high school career. Courses in any of the following areas: Band, Choir, Art
Student Engagement Seal: Must participate in two seasons/years of any one or more of the JAHS school sponsored athletic teams or extracurricular clubs throughout high school career. Participation/attendance must be verified by an advisor.
