On July 4, 2026, in Jefferson, OH, America 250th – Ashtabula County (a volunteer committee) will host a once-in-a-lifetime event honoring our nation’s 250th birthday, the Semiquincentennial. The last time we came together for a county-wide celebration of great magnitude was in 1976 for our nation's Bicentennial. Those memories are still cherished today. Now, a celebration of the same scale is being planned for our nation’s Semiquincentennial—one that future generations will remember just as fondly.
Thousands of people from across the county and beyond will gather for a day filled with history, entertainment, and community spirit. We’re reaching out not only to businesses and organizations that make our community strong, but also to individuals and families who care deeply about Ashtabula County’s past, present, and future. Whether you’re a local business, civic leader, or simply someone who loves this county and wants to be a part of something historic—we invite you to help make this celebration truly unforgettable.
Beyond the main Fourth of July event, the county is participating in statewide themes and local historical preservation:
Revolutionary War Veterans Graves Project: A collaborative effort to identify and map the graves of over 7,000 Revolutionary War veterans buried in Ohio, including those in Ashtabula County cemeteries.
Monthly Themes: Ashtabula is aligning with Ohio’s statewide monthly focus (e.g., Ohio’s Firsts & Originals in January; Innovation & Industry in February).
Regional Collaboration: The Ashtabula committee is meeting regularly with neighboring Geauga, Trumbull, and Lake counties to cross-promote historical events.
Time Capsule Ceremony: A community ceremony will be held during the July 4th festival to preserve modern-day memories for future generations.
